Just like that, another RTA championship kicks into life this coming Tuesday. The BTCC championship was very successful and saw massive grids, thankfully the grid is set to grow even more for the Formula RTA championship!
About the championship:
The Formula RTA championship idea came to life when iRacing released their new IR04 car, based on the universally raced multi-manufacturer Formula 4 car. We decided that after the BTCC we would go back to a single seater series and it was obvious very quick that the new IR04 would be a great car to race, Its pretty forgiving, its fast and its a beautiful looking car, what more could you want!
The IR04 boasts a modest 2 Liter engine, with a 6 speed sequential paddle shift gearbox, it weighs just 570 kilos and runs a full aerodynamics package making it incredibly fun to drive.
This championship will follow the standard RTA format of a 15 minute open qualifying session followed by a 15 minute, 10 minute and 20 minute race each of which will carry equal points with the winner taking the maximum 20 points. Similar to the BTCC series, the feature race will boast a top 8 reverse grid from the finishing order of race 2.
Who to watch:
Honestly, there is a pretty incredible field of drivers taking part in the Formula RTA series, without a doubt some of the best drivers in Europe if not the world will be competing in it. Nürburgring 24hr top split winning team, VRA Racing will field a number of drivers who without a doubt are some of the top drivers in the sim racing world. To name but a few who will be on the pace, Jordan Kelly a regular championship contender in anything he drives. Jordan will be hunting down his 3rd championship title in RTA making him…. if he can pull it off, the most successful driver in the league. Other names to watch include pace setter Ronan Doherty, 2 time champion Jason Smyth, the ultra quick and determine Wayne Douglas and the ever quick drivers Evan Walsh and peter McCann who will all be right up there. We also have a large amount of new drivers who have joined us for the Formula RTA series and so far their practice times have proved that they will no doubt be challenging for the title too!
